One of our favourite O Cosmedics skincare products is the Immortal Cream which isn't surprising because it is one of their bestselling moisturizers, but why is it so popular? and why should you use it? As a Cosmetic Chemist I will unpack the mechanisms and ingredients of this moisturizer to show you why you might want to make a change to O Cosmedics Immortal Cream.

O Cosmedics explains their Immortal cream in a few sentences as "O Cosmedics #1 selling hydrator! Immortal Cream’s cutting-edge super antioxidants and potent concentrations of V8 Peptide Complex® (topical muscle relaxant) make this age defying cream a five-star anti-aging treatment. Fortified with mega doses of Vitamin C it works to awaken and hydrate the skin, assist relaxation of muscles, and helps to reverse and diminish the signs of aging whilst providing a feeling of instant lift. Never ending youth!"
You can already see that O Cosmedics claims that the superstar ingredients in this formula are the antioxidants, V8 Peptide Compex and Vitamin C. But does their ingredients match their claim?

This list is legally required to follow a set of rules so that consumers know whats in the product. 1 of the biggest rules is that it must be in order from the highest percentage to the lowest.

O Cosmedics Immortal Ingredient List Explained
As you can see from the above ingredient list, the main ingredient is water which indicates its an oil in water product, that means it will go on your skin lightly but still provide the moisturizing and film forming protection that oil provides.
The next few ingredients are the oils, so clearly it has a lot of great oils in this moisturizer which are used at high percentages.
There are a few emulsifiers mixed in there such as the Cetyl Alcohol and Glyceryl Stearate, these basically hold the oil and water parts together and help the she butter to thicken the product.
When I used the immortal cream I didnt notice a huge scent but in here is shows it has Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Cananga Odorata Hook (Ylang Ylang) Oil which are really nice soothing oils to use and arent over powering in smell.
Notice where I have changed the colour to blue in the ingredient list? this is where Phenoxyethanol is. This is one of the trigger ingredients for me. Not that it shouldnt be in skincare but that its maximum usage is at 1%. So you know that if the skincare manufacturer has done their job correctly then anything below this mark is in concentrations of less than 1%. If I am looking for ingredients that are benefitting my skin then I will not look below this point but if I am looking to avoid certain ingredients then I will continue through the whole list.
Some of the key ingredients I am noticing are the Coconut water which is rather unique in a skincare product.
Antioxidants In O Cosmedics Immortal Cream
This moisturiser is just loaded with anti-oxidants which is why I have given it its own header. Antioxidants help maintain your skin and fight free radicals. These are basically little atoms that bounce around and try to disturb everything around them. Antioxidants can help keep your skin looking health and young. This cream has a lot of these so its no wonder it helps fight off aging skin. The following are all antioxidants. L-Ascorbic Acid which is Vitamin C and an amazing antioxidant so it will help stop your free radicals from bouncing around and creating damage. The Resveratrol is also a great anti oxidant so clearly the formula is based around maintaining healthy and younger looking skin. The CoEnzyme Q10 is amazing to have in this formula because yet again it is another anti oxidant but its use in our bodies cells is what really draws me to this ingredient. You probably have some in your vitamin draws to take daily because it is so healthy for you. Lipochroman-6 appears to be a trademarked antioxidant. D-Alpha Teocopherol.
Actives Other Than Antioxidants
There are several other actives in the O Cosmedics Immortal Cream that are not antioxidants. I have listed them below and what their benefits are.
V8 Peptide Complex:
A peptide mixture owned by O Cosmedics, this blend of peptides from what we could find is not disclosed however peptides are smaller molecules of proteins but smaller. This complex is targeted specifically to fight against signs of aging.
Niacinamide:
Also known as B3, Niacinamide has a plathora of benefits including anti aging, minimizing pores and hydrating and brightening.
SNAP-8:
Acetyl Octapeptide-3, believed to work by inhibiting the signals sent to neurotransmitters and prevent the formation of dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repetitive facial movements over time.
L-Sodium Hyaluronate:
Similar to hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate is one of the most popular hydrating ingredients to deliver hydration deep into the skin.
